Party leaders of the INDIA bloc are at odds over the choice of a prime‑ministerial face for the 2029 Lok Sabha poll, with Tamil Nadu leader TVK signalling his own ambitions.

The coalition of opposition parties known as the INDIA bloc is currently locked in a dispute over who should be projected as its prime‑ministerial candidate for the 2029 general election. Senior leaders have been meeting in Delhi and regional headquarters, but no consensus has emerged, raising concerns about the alliance’s electoral strategy.

Tamil Nadu regional chief TVK has publicly hinted at his own aspirations for a national role, adding a new dimension to the debate. His statements have been interpreted as a bid to influence the selection process and to secure greater representation for the southern state within the alliance’s leadership.

Political analysts say that the row could test the cohesion of the INDIA bloc, which was formed to present a united front against the ruling party. If unresolved, the disagreement may spill over into campaign messaging and affect voter perception across key constituencies.

As of now, the alliance has not announced a definitive timeline for finalising its prime‑ministerial face, and senior figures are reportedly continuing behind‑the‑scenes negotiations to bridge the divide.
