The government announced a strategy to expand India’s trade links to cover 80% of the world’s markets, seeking broader export opportunities.
New Delhi – The Union government unveiled a comprehensive trade outreach plan that seeks to connect Indian exporters with 80% of global markets. The initiative, presented by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is part of a broader effort to diversify India’s export basket and reduce reliance on a limited set of trading partners.
Officials said the strategy will focus on deepening existing agreements, negotiating new bilateral and regional deals, and leveraging digital platforms to facilitate market entry for small and medium enterprises. By tapping into a wider array of economies, the government hopes to boost export volumes, attract foreign investment, and create jobs across sectors.
The plan outlines a phased rollout over the next three years, with priority given to high‑growth regions such as Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America. Trade ministries will coordinate with state governments and industry bodies to identify sector‑specific opportunities and address logistical bottlenecks.
While detailed targets for individual commodities were not disclosed, the overarching goal is to position India as a more resilient and competitive player in global supply chains.
