India Adds 16 GW of Renewable Energy in Q2 2024, Rajasthan, UP, Gujarat Lead

India installed more than 16 gigawatts of renewable power between April and June, with Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat contributing the largest share.
India’s renewable energy capacity grew by over 16 gigawatts during the April‑June quarter, according to data released by the Ministry of Power. The surge was driven largely by large solar and wind projects that came online across the country.
Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat together accounted for more than half of the new capacity, with Rajasthan adding the most in terms of installed power. The three states have been prioritising renewable projects as part of their energy diversification plans.
The addition brings India closer to its target of 450 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030, a key component of the country’s climate commitments. It also supports the national grid’s ability to accommodate higher shares of intermittent renewable sources.
