The International Monetary Fund has projected that India will maintain a 7.0% growth rate for 2026 and 2027, keeping it the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released its latest World Economic Outlook, projecting India’s gross domestic product to expand at a 7.0% annual rate in both 2026 and 2027.

The forecast places India ahead of other major economies such as the United States, China, and the European Union, reaffirming its position as the fastest-growing large economy in the world.

IMF officials cited a combination of strong domestic demand, resilient manufacturing output, and continued fiscal reforms as key drivers of the growth trajectory.

The agency also noted that the growth outlook is contingent on maintaining macro‑economic stability and managing external pressures such as global commodity price swings.

Economists say the sustained growth could translate into higher employment and improved living standards, but they caution that policy execution remains critical to achieving the forecasted rates.
