The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for 17 districts in Tamil Nadu, prompting the deployment of more than 15,000 civic workers to manage potential flooding.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall over 17 districts in Tamil Nadu, signalling a significant monsoon surge for the state.

In response, state authorities have deployed more than 15,000 civic workers across the affected areas. The workforce, drawn from municipal bodies and local administrative units, is tasked with preparing drainage systems, clearing debris, and setting up temporary relief measures.

Officials have urged residents in the warned districts to stay alert, keep emergency supplies ready, and follow instructions from local authorities. The mobilised teams will also conduct rapid assessments of vulnerable infrastructure and coordinate with disaster management agencies.

The heavy rain warning comes as Tamil Nadu faces a busy monsoon season, and the state’s preparedness plans aim to minimise flooding and protect communities.
