The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a short‑term forecast of rain for Delhi today and warned that the monsoon will retreat from the capital starting September 19.

The India Meteorological Department released a bulletin this morning indicating a high likelihood of showers across Delhi later today. Meteorologists attribute the expected precipitation to an approaching western disturbance that is set to move over the National Capital Region in the afternoon.

In addition to the short‑term outlook, the IMD warned that the southwest monsoon will begin withdrawing from Delhi from September 19 onward. The agency’s seasonal forecast suggests that the retreat will be gradual, with decreasing humidity and fewer cloud bands over the city.

Officials said the impending withdrawal could bring a noticeable change in weather patterns, with cooler evenings and a reduced risk of flooding. Residents are advised to stay updated on local forecasts, especially as the city transitions to the post‑monsoon period.

The forecast aligns with broader national trends, as the monsoon currently recedes from northern India while still active over central and southern regions. Authorities will continue to monitor rainfall intensity and issue advisories as needed.
