The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy‑rain warning for Uttarakhand, South interior Karnataka and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands for today.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a weather bulletin this morning indicating that heavy rainfall is expected today over three distinct regions: the hilly state of Uttarakhand, the southern interior districts of Karnataka and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal.

Meteorologists attribute the intense precipitation to a deep low‑pressure system moving eastward across the sub‑continent, which is drawing moisture from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The IMD has warned that rainfall could exceed 100 mm in parts of Uttarakhand, while isolated downpours of 50‑80 mm are likely in Karnataka’s interior zones and the islands.

Authorities in the affected areas have been advised to activate emergency response plans, clear drainage channels and keep rescue teams on standby. Residents are urged to avoid non‑essential travel, secure loose objects, and stay updated with local alerts.

The IMD will continue to monitor the system and issue further advisories if the intensity or coverage changes over the next few hours.
