The India Meteorological Department issued a forecast of widespread rainfall over central and northeast India, while expecting subdued monsoon activity over the southern peninsula.
The India Meteorological Department released its latest monsoon outlook, indicating that large parts of central and northeast India will experience significant rainfall over the coming days.
The forecast highlights states such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam and West Bengal as likely to receive heavy showers, with potential for localized flooding in low‑lying areas.
In contrast, the department expects the monsoon over the peninsular region—including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu—to remain relatively subdued, with only intermittent showers.
Meteorologists warned that the uneven distribution could affect agriculture in the south, while the excess rain in the north may benefit sowing but also pose challenges for water‑logged fields.
The IMD advised authorities and the public to stay alert, monitor updates and take precautionary measures where heavy rain is forecast.
