The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra, urging residents to take precautions.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in several districts across Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. The alert covers areas that are prone to flash floods and landslides, especially in the hilly and semi‑arid regions.

Meteorologists predict that the rainfall could exceed 200 mm in some pockets, potentially causing widespread flooding and road blockages. The alert remains in effect until the monsoon trough moves away, which could be within the next 48 hours.

Local authorities have been advised to set up early‑warning systems and to prepare emergency response teams. Residents in affected districts are urged to stay indoors, avoid low‑lying areas and keep emergency contacts handy.

The IMD has also released detailed maps and advisories on its official website, urging people to monitor updates and follow instructions from local officials.
