The India Meteorological Department has raised a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall across Andhra Pradesh, warning of possible flooding and landslides.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded its warning to a Red Alert for Andhra Pradesh, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rain in the coming hours. Meteorologists predict that rainfall intensity could exceed 100 mm in several districts, raising concerns about flash floods and landslides, especially in hilly and coastal areas.
State authorities have been instructed to activate emergency response teams, clear drainage channels, and issue advisories to residents to avoid low‑lying zones. Schools and public offices in the most vulnerable districts may be temporarily closed if conditions deteriorate.
The IMD also cautioned that the weather system could spawn thunderstorms in neighboring Madhya Pradesh, but the primary focus remains on mitigating the impact of the deluge in Andhra Pradesh. Citizens are urged to stay updated through official bulletins and follow safety guidelines.
The department will continue to monitor the situation and may adjust warnings as new data becomes available, aiming to minimise loss of life and property.
