The India Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain across several states today and placed parts of Delhi under a red alert as the monsoon remains active.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of widespread heavy rainfall for today, affecting a number of states where the monsoon system continues to be active. In the capital region, the agency has raised the alert level to red for several districts of Delhi, signalling the highest degree of risk from intense precipitation.
Authorities in Delhi have been urged to activate emergency response measures, including deployment of rescue teams and readiness of relief shelters. Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel, keep drainage systems clear, and stay updated with local bulletins.
The IMD's forecast indicates that the heavy showers could persist into the evening, potentially causing waterlogging and localized flooding in low-lying areas. Similar conditions are expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where authorities have also been asked to monitor the situation closely.
The department emphasized that the monsoon, which entered the country in early June, remains robust and capable of producing sudden downpours. Citizens are encouraged to follow safety guidelines issued by municipal bodies and to report any emergencies promptly.
