The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced orange alerts for very heavy rainfall and yellow alerts for thunderstorms across the state of Jharkhand on Thursday. The orange alert, the second highest level of warning, signals the possibility of rainfall exceeding 100 mm in 24 hours, which can lead to flash floods and landslides.
The yellow alert for thunderstorms indicates a high probability of severe weather, including hail and strong winds, that could damage property and disrupt transportation.
Affected districts include Ranchi, Hazaribagh, and Palamu, where residents have been advised to avoid open water bodies, secure loose objects, and stay updated via local radio and the IMD website. State authorities have mobilised emergency teams and set up evacuation centres in vulnerable areas.
