IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and the Karaikal district today. The alert warns that rainfall amounts could exceed 100 mm in 24 hours, potentially leading to flooding and landslides. Local authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, monitor local advisories and avoid unnecessary travel. Meteorologists attribute the heavy rains to a low‑pressure system moving across the Bay of Bengal. Emergency services are on standby and residents are advised to keep emergency kits ready and follow official instructions.
