The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, signalling very heavy rainfall, for Chhattisgarh, the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Residents are advised to stay alert and take precautionary measures.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday raised an orange alert for very heavy rainfall across Chhattisgarh, the coastal belt of Andhra Pradesh and the state of Odisha. An orange alert denotes that rainfall intensity could exceed 100 mm in 24 hours, posing a high risk of flooding and landslides.
Meteorologists forecast that the monsoon trough will intensify over the central and eastern peninsular region from Tuesday onward, bringing prolonged downpours. Local authorities in the affected districts have been instructed to activate disaster‑response teams, clear drainage channels and ready relief shelters.
The warning follows similar alerts issued in previous years when the same monsoon system triggered flash floods in parts of these states. Residents are urged to monitor updates on the IMD website and heed instructions from district disaster management officials to minimise loss of life and property.
