The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of potential flooding as the monsoon season begins to wane, with heavy rains persisting across parts of India, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flood alert for several districts in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand as the monsoon season starts to draw down. The alert follows reports of sustained heavy rainfall across northern parts of the country, with some areas receiving rainfall amounts that exceed the seasonal average.
Officials have urged residents in the affected districts to stay alert and follow local instructions. The IMD has also warned that the monsoon’s retreat may lead to sudden waterlogging in low‑lying regions, increasing the risk of flash floods.
The government has mobilised emergency response teams and advised that people avoid travelling on flooded roads. The alert remains in effect until the monsoon season is fully over, and authorities will update the public as conditions evolve.
