The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an Extremely Heavy Rainfall alert for the state of Odisha, warning of intense monsoon activity that could lead to flooding and landslides.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released an Extremely Heavy Rainfall alert for the state of Odisha, signalling that the region is likely to experience intense monsoon activity in the coming days.

The alert, which is the highest level of rainfall warning issued by the IMD, indicates that rainfall amounts could exceed 200 mm in a 24‑hour period in certain districts. Such heavy precipitation can overwhelm drainage systems and increase the risk of flash floods and landslides.

Officials in Odisha have advised residents to stay informed through local weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel to low‑lying areas, and prepare emergency kits. The state government has also mobilised disaster‑management teams to monitor vulnerable zones.

The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as the monsoon progresses. Residents are urged to heed official advisories and take precautionary measures to safeguard property and life.
