The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rainfall across northeast and east India for the upcoming week, urging residents to take precautions.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released an "Extremely Heavy Rainfall" alert on Monday for the northeast and east regions of India, covering the period from 1 to 7 September. The alert covers states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, West Bengal, Odisha and parts of Bihar and Jharkhand. Meteorologists predict rainfall totals between 200 and 300 millimetres, which could lead to flash floods and landslides in hilly areas. Local authorities are advised to activate emergency response plans, clear drainage systems and keep residents informed through radio and social media.
