The India Meteorological Department has warned of very heavy rainfall across Odisha on August 29, with thunderstorms also expected in other parts of the country.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather outlook for August 29, indicating that Odisha will experience very heavy rain, with accumulations likely to exceed normal thresholds. The forecast covers the entire state, including coastal districts such as Puri, Kendrapara and Bhadrak, where rainfall intensity could reach severe levels.

State authorities have been alerted to the impending downpour and are advising residents to stay indoors, secure loose objects, and avoid low‑lying areas prone to flooding. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any water‑related incidents.

In addition to Odisha, the IMD warned that several other states may see scattered thunderstorms and moderate to heavy showers later in the day. The department urged the public across the affected regions to monitor updates on official channels and heed any local advisories.

The forecast comes as the monsoon season approaches its peak, prompting officials to review flood‑control measures and ensure that drainage systems are functional ahead of the expected deluge.
