Authorities say a makeshift road constructed with sand and soil across the main river of Kerwa Dam in the Samasgarh‑Mittukhedi area has blocked water flow, prompting a complaint to the district collector.

The Samasgarh‑Mittukhedi stretch of the Kerwa Dam’s primary watercourse in Bhopal district has come under scrutiny after locals reported an illegal pathway cut through the riverbed using sand and soil. The makeshift road, allegedly built without any official permission, narrows the channel and obstructs the natural flow of water.

Preliminary observations indicate that the obstruction could affect downstream water availability and raise concerns about erosion and flood risk during the monsoon season. Environmental experts warn that such encroachments can degrade the dam’s ecosystem and compromise its role in supplying drinking water to nearby communities.

A formal grievance was lodged with the district collector, who has been asked to initiate an inquiry and take corrective action. The collector’s office is expected to coordinate with the water resources department and local law enforcement to remove the illegal structure and restore the river’s original course.

If verified, the construction may constitute a violation of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and local land‑use regulations, exposing the perpetrators to penalties under state law.
