Three IIT Patna students secured first place in Flipkart’s Grid 2.0 competition with their AI‑driven ‘Gridlock Oracle’ system that predicts traffic disruptions.

Patna, Bihar – In the latest edition of Flipkart’s Grid 2.0 hackathon, a team of three undergraduate students from the Indian Institute of Technology Patna emerged as the overall winners. Their project, named “Gridlock Oracle,” leverages artificial intelligence to analyse real‑time traffic data and forecast congestion points before they occur.

The solution integrates historical traffic patterns, sensor inputs and weather information to generate short‑term disruption alerts, enabling city planners and commuters to take pre‑emptive actions. Judges praised the prototype for its scalability, low‑cost implementation and potential to ease traffic snarls across Indian metros.

Flipkart, which organises the Grid series to encourage innovative tech solutions, awarded the team a cash prize and mentorship from its mobility partners. The institute’s dean highlighted the win as evidence of IIT Patna’s growing focus on applied AI research.

While the tool is currently a proof‑of‑concept, the developers aim to pilot it in Patna’s traffic management system later this year, hoping to reduce travel time and emissions in the rapidly expanding city.
