IIT Bombay has restarted its mid‑semester examinations, introducing tighter invigilation while reducing the severity of penalties for cheating.

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay reopened its mid‑semester examinations on Monday after a brief suspension. Campus authorities have deployed additional invigilators and installed more rigorous verification procedures to curb malpractice.

While the institute has tightened surveillance, it has also announced a revision of its disciplinary framework, opting for milder punishments for first‑time offenders. The move aims to balance deterrence with a more rehabilitative approach.

Students are required to present valid identity documents at multiple checkpoints before entering exam halls. Any breach of the revised code will attract penalties ranging from reduced marks to a limited de‑registration, rather than the harsher sanctions previously in place. The changes reflect IIT Bombay's effort to maintain academic integrity without imposing overly punitive measures.
