Ashoke Pandit, president of the Indian Film and Television Directors Association, has appealed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for state support to promote India's participation in the Oscars.
Mumbai, Sept 21 — Ashoke Pandit, who heads the Indian Film and Television Directors Association (IFTDA), wrote to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking the state government's assistance in advancing Indian cinema's presence at the Academy Awards. In his appeal, Pandit highlighted the need for financial backing, promotional platforms, and logistical support to enable Indian filmmakers to compete effectively on the global stage.
Pandit noted that recent Indian entries have garnered critical acclaim but often lack the resources required for a robust Oscar campaign. He urged the CM to consider measures such as subsidies for qualifying films, facilitation of international screenings, and collaboration with cultural bodies to raise the profile of Indian cinema abroad.
The request comes amid growing calls from the entertainment industry for greater governmental involvement in promoting cultural exports. While the state has previously supported film festivals and infrastructure projects, this is the first formal appeal specifically targeting Oscar participation.
The CM's office has not yet responded publicly to Pandit's letter. Industry observers say a timely endorsement could boost confidence among producers and directors aiming for the prestigious awards.
