The state’s HPV vaccination campaign has immunised 1,800 adolescent girls, covering every district of Meghalaya.

Meghalaya’s health department has completed a statewide HPV vaccination drive, administering the vaccine to 1,800 school‑age girls across all twelve districts. The campaign forms part of the national effort to curb cervical cancer by immunising girls before they become sexually active.
The rollout, coordinated by district health officials and supported by central health agencies, achieved full geographic coverage, ensuring that even remote areas received the vaccine. The figure of 1,800 beneficiaries reflects the first phase of the program, which targets adolescents in the 9‑14 age group.
Officials indicated that the drive will continue in the coming months to reach the remaining eligible girls identified in school and community registers. Health workers emphasized the importance of completing the two‑dose schedule to maximise protection against human papillomavirus infections.
The successful completion of this phase is expected to strengthen public confidence in preventive health initiatives and contribute to the long‑term goal of reducing cervical cancer incidence in the state.
