Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Forests, Ecology & Environment, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Shri Altaf Ahmad Wani (Altaf Kaloo), today chaired an introductory meeting of the Forest Department at Jammu, reviewing its overall functioning, achievements and future priorities.
During the meeting, the Minister emphasised that forests are the lifeline of Jammu & Kashmir and their conservation must go hand in hand with the active participation of local communities.
He laid special focus on time-bound forest demarcation, strengthening forest fire management, expediting pending DPCs for employees, improving staff welfare and ensuring optimum utilisation of departmental assets.
The Minister also stressed the importance of involving Panchayati Raj Institutions, local youth and village-level committees in forest protection, while reviewing ongoing eco-tourism projects and new trekking routes across Jammu & Kashmir.
He called upon officers to ensure that departmental policies and initiatives translate into tangible results on the ground, with a focused roadmap for 2027–28.
