Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) announced plans to install a sprinkler system along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) main carriageway to keep the roadside greenery healthy.
Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has unveiled a new initiative to enhance the city’s green belt along the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The plan involves installing an automated sprinkler system on the main carriageway to ensure consistent watering of roadside trees and shrubs.
The system will be integrated with the existing municipal water supply and will operate on a scheduled basis, reducing manual labor and improving water use efficiency. HMDA officials said the project aims to address the rapid deterioration of greenery caused by traffic pollution and seasonal drought.
Experts predict that the automated watering will help maintain the health of the vegetation, reduce maintenance costs, and improve air quality for commuters. The authority also highlighted that the initiative aligns with its broader sustainability goals for Hyderabad.
Work is expected to begin in the coming months, with a phased rollout across key stretches of the ORR. HMDA will monitor the system’s performance and adjust watering schedules based on seasonal variations.
