The Himachal Pradesh government will introduce a Moral Science syllabus for students starting from Class I, aiming to strengthen character development, the Chief Minister announced.

The state government of Himachal Pradesh has decided to incorporate Moral Science as a compulsory subject for children beginning at Class I. The move, announced by the Chief Minister, is intended to embed ethical values and character-building lessons early in the school curriculum.

Education officials will design the syllabus in consultation with pedagogical experts, ensuring it aligns with existing academic standards while focusing on honesty, respect, responsibility and social harmony. The new content will be rolled out across government and aided schools in the upcoming academic session.

The initiative reflects a broader effort by the state to address behavioural issues and promote holistic development beyond academic performance. Teachers will receive training to deliver the program effectively, and parents are expected to support the moral education of their children.

Implementation details, such as assessment methods and resource distribution, will be communicated to schools in the coming weeks, with the aim of full adoption by the start of the next school year.
