Himachal Pradesh to Build New Ropeways via PPP and EAP, Announces CM Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu told reporters that Himachal Pradesh will embark on a series of ropeway projects aimed at improving mountain connectivity and boosting tourism. The initiative will be rolled out under a public‑private partnership (PPP) model combined with the state's Enhanced Accelerated Programme (EAP).\n\nUnder the PPP framework, private investors will be invited to design, finance, construct and operate the ropeways, while the government will provide land, clearances and a share of the capital cost. The EAP component is expected to fast‑track approvals and allocate additional funds to ensure timely completion.\n\nThe government plans to identify priority routes in districts such as Kullu, Shimla and Lahaul before the end of the fiscal year, with an eye on linking tourist hubs and remote villages. Officials said the projects could generate employment, reduce road traffic in fragile alpine zones, and create a sustainable revenue stream for the state.\n\nImplementation details, including tender schedules and exact investment figures, will be released in the coming weeks as the state moves forward with feasibility studies and stakeholder consultations.
