Following recent disturbances at universities in Punjab, the Himachal Pradesh government has ordered heightened security measures on its own college campuses.
Recent protests and clashes at several Punjab universities have raised concerns about student safety across neighboring states. In response, the Himachal Pradesh government announced a series of security upgrades for all higher‑education institutions within the state.
The measures include deploying additional police personnel on campuses, installing extra CCTV cameras at entry points, and conducting mandatory identity verification for all visitors. Authorities have also instructed college administrations to develop emergency response protocols and to coordinate closely with local law‑enforcement agencies.
Education Minister Raghav Singh (name illustrative) said the steps are preventive, aimed at averting any spill‑over of unrest and ensuring a safe learning environment. He added that the state will monitor the situation in Punjab closely and adjust security arrangements as needed.
So far, no incidents have been reported in Himachal Pradesh’s colleges, and officials emphasized that the heightened vigilance is a precautionary measure rather than a reaction to any local threat.
