The Himachal government and ISB have signed an MoU to develop the state's forest economy, aiming to unlock an estimated Rs 22,600 crore of value.

Himachal Pradesh government and the Indian School of Business (ISB) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the state's forest‑based economy.

The pact targets unlocking an estimated Rs 22,600 crore (about $2.7 billion) of economic value from forest resources through research, capacity building and commercial ventures.

Under the agreement, ISB will provide expertise in market analysis, sustainable business models and skill development for local entrepreneurs, while the state will facilitate access to forest areas and regulatory support.

Officials said the partnership seeks to diversify Himachal's income sources beyond tourism and agriculture, creating jobs in non‑timber forest products, eco‑tourism and value‑added processing.

The MoU marks a strategic step for the state to harness its natural assets while adhering to environmental guidelines.
