Himachal Pradesh minister Vikramaditya Singh has publicly defended the state government's proposal to restructure the IAS and IFS cadres, saying it will improve administrative efficiency.
The Himachal Pradesh government has put forward a plan to reorganise the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) cadres within the state. The restructuring aims to streamline the hierarchy, reduce duplication of duties, and align officer postings with the state's development priorities.
Minister Vikramaditya Singh, speaking at a press briefing, defended the proposal, asserting that a modernised cadre system will enable faster decision‑making and better service delivery to citizens. He emphasized that the changes are consistent with similar reforms undertaken in other Indian states and are intended to address long‑standing administrative bottlenecks.
While the minister highlighted potential efficiency gains, the proposal has drawn attention from senior bureaucrats who have raised concerns about the impact on career progression and the need for clear implementation guidelines. Singh acknowledged these viewpoints but reiterated that the government will engage with stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition.
