The Himachal Pradesh government has constituted a high‑level committee to review and restructure the state's district map, the first such exercise in over five decades.

The Himachal Pradesh administration announced the creation of a senior-level panel tasked with examining the present configuration of its districts and recommending a comprehensive reorganisation. The committee will study demographic trends, geographic features and administrative efficiency to propose changes that could streamline governance.

This is the first district‑restructuring effort in the state since a similar exercise was undertaken more than half a century ago. Officials said the long gap has resulted in uneven population distribution and varying levels of service delivery across districts.

The panel is expected to submit its findings within a stipulated timeframe, after which the state government will consider the recommendations before issuing any official order. Potential outcomes include the creation of new districts, alteration of existing boundaries or the merger of smaller administrative units to improve public service access.

State authorities emphasized that the exercise aims solely at enhancing administrative effectiveness and will be carried out after thorough consultation with local stakeholders.
