The Himachal Pradesh chief minister met the Union finance minister to request additional financial assistance and an increase in the state's borrowing limit to 4% of its GSDP.
The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh held a meeting with the Union finance minister to discuss the state's fiscal needs. During the talks, the state leader pressed for extra financial assistance from the centre to bridge ongoing budgetary gaps.
The demand also included a proposal to raise Himachal Pradesh's borrowing ceiling to 4% of its Gross State Domestic Product, a step the state argues is essential for sustaining development projects and public services.
State officials have highlighted that the existing borrowing limit restricts their ability to fund infrastructure and welfare schemes, especially in the wake of recent revenue shortfalls. The centre has not yet issued a formal response to the request.
If approved, the increased limit would allow the Himachal government to mobilise additional resources through market borrowing, potentially easing cash‑flow pressures and supporting planned initiatives across health, education and tourism sectors.
