Himachal Pradesh Assembly Passes State Universities Amendment Bill Despite Opposition

The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly has given its assent to the State Universities Amendment Bill, a measure intended to revise the legal framework governing the state’s public universities. The bill cleared the house despite vocal opposition from a segment of legislators who raised concerns about potential impacts on university autonomy and academic freedom. Lawmakers argued that the amendments could centralise control and affect the existing governance structures of the institutions.
