The Himachal Pradesh government has reassigned the Public Works Department and urban development responsibilities to two separate ministers, as part of a cabinet reshuffle.

The Himachal Pradesh administration announced today that the Public Works Department (PWD) and the urban development portfolio will be handled by two different ministers. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting aimed at streamlining responsibilities across key infrastructure sectors.

Both ministers are senior members of the ruling party and will now oversee the planning, execution and maintenance of state highways, bridges and other public works, while the other will focus on urban planning, housing schemes and municipal services. The split is intended to provide dedicated attention to each area, improving project delivery and coordination with local bodies.

Officials said the move is expected to accelerate ongoing infrastructure projects and align urban development initiatives with the state's broader growth agenda. The reshuffle does not affect other departments and the government will issue detailed orders outlining the specific duties of each minister in the coming days.
