The Himachal Pradesh High Court has identified illegal-height constructions in Barog and directed authorities to furnish land‑deal records for the past decade across the state.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court, sitting in Shimla, has raised concerns over several construction projects in the hill‑station of Barog that exceed the permissible height limits set by state regulations. In its order, the court described the structures as "illegal‑height" and warned that such violations could compromise safety and environmental norms.

To assess the scale of the issue, the bench directed the state land‑records department to submit detailed data on all land transactions and building approvals made in Himachal over the last ten years. The request aims to identify patterns of non‑compliance and to hold accountable any parties involved in granting or executing unauthorized approvals.

State officials have been asked to compile the information within a stipulated timeframe and present it before the court. The High Court has indicated that further judicial action may follow based on the findings, including possible penalties for developers and officials found negligent.

The move comes amid growing scrutiny of unregulated construction in ecologically sensitive hill regions, where unauthorized high‑rise projects have sparked public concern over landslide risks and loss of scenic vistas.

Local residents of Barog expressed relief that the judiciary is intervening, hoping the probe will curb future violations and ensure that development adheres to legal and environmental standards.
