Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a plan to save roughly Rs 200 crore by reducing the strength of IAS, IFS and IPS officers in Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu disclosed a fiscal plan aimed at generating savings of about Rs 200 crore by lowering the number of officers in the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Forest Service and Indian Police Service.

The proposal calls for a systematic review of existing postings and vacancies, with the intention of not filling certain posts and thereby reducing administrative outlays while maintaining essential public services.

State finance officials estimate that the cut could free up significant resources for developmental projects, although the exact count of positions to be eliminated has not been disclosed.

The initiative is part of a broader trend of fiscal consolidation among Indian state governments and will be tabled before the Himachal cabinet for final approval.

Opposition leaders have urged the government to ensure transparency and to safeguard service delivery standards as the restructuring proceeds.
