The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education announced that from March 2027, all board examinations will feature case study questions, phasing out rote learning methods.
The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBSE) has announced a significant shift in its board examination format, effective from March 2027. The new structure will incorporate case study questions across all subjects, aiming to reduce reliance on rote learning.
Under the revised scheme, students will be required to analyze real‑world scenarios and apply conceptual knowledge, a move intended to foster critical thinking and practical understanding. The board has stated that the change will be implemented gradually, with pilot tests in select schools before full rollout.
Education officials say the change will necessitate teacher training and updated teaching materials. They also plan to provide guidelines and sample case studies to help educators adapt.
The announcement was made during a press briefing by the board’s chief, who emphasized that the reform aligns with national education policy goals of competency‑based learning.
