Intense rainfall caused flooding along the Chhattisgarh border with Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, prompting authorities to relocate 525 residents to safety.
Heavy monsoon showers over the past 24 hours have swollen rivers and low‑lying streams along Chhattisgarh’s eastern frontier with Maharashtra. The excess water breached embankments near the Gadchiroli district, turning several villages into temporary waterlogged zones.
Local disaster management teams, aided by the state’s police and National Disaster Response Force, moved 525 people from the most affected hamlets to relief shelters set up in nearby towns. Temporary shelters are equipped with basic food, drinking water and medical kits.
Officials continue to monitor water levels and have warned residents in adjacent areas to stay alert. Roads connecting the border villages remain partially submerged, and rescue boats are on standby for any further evacuations.
The situation is being reviewed by the Chhattisgarh State Disaster Management Authority, which will issue further advisories if the rain persists.
