Heavy rains over the past 24 hours have led to sudden flash floods in several districts of Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert, urging residents in flood‑prone areas to stay alert.
In Jammu & Kashmir, the floods have submerged low‑lying villages along the Chenab and Jhelum rivers, while in Uttarakhand, swollen streams have caused water to spill over roads and bridges in the Garhwal region.
Authorities have warned of imminent landslides in hilly terrains, especially where deforestation and unplanned construction have weakened slopes. Rescue teams are on standby, and evacuation centres have been set up in affected towns.
