Monsoon downpours in Uttar Pradesh have caused at least ten deaths and seventeen injuries, prompting Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav to accuse the BJP government of inadequate relief measures.
Heavy rainstorms swept across several districts of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, triggering flash floods that swept away homes and roads. Official figures released by the state disaster management authority confirmed ten fatalities and seventeen people injured, many of them trapped in rising water.
Rescue teams from the police, fire services and the National Disaster Response Force were deployed to the affected areas. Temporary shelters were set up in schools and community halls, while medical aid was dispatched to treat the injured.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav addressed the media later in the day, blaming the ruling BJP for delayed relief and insufficient infrastructure to handle such extreme weather. He urged the state administration to accelerate evacuation and compensation measures.
The Uttar Pradesh government announced an immediate financial assistance package for the families of the deceased and promised to repair damaged roads and bridges within the next fortnight.
