Intense monsoon rains across Kerala triggered landslides and flash floods that have claimed five lives and left two people missing.
Heavy rainfall swept through several districts of Kerala on Monday, prompting a sudden rise in water levels that turned roads into torrents and triggered multiple landslides. The combined effect of flash floods and slope failures resulted in five confirmed deaths, while rescue teams continue to search for two individuals reported missing.
Local authorities have deployed National Disaster Response Force units, police, and volunteers to clear debris, evacuate stranded residents, and provide emergency relief. Temporary shelters have been set up in community halls, and medical teams are attending to the injured.
The state disaster management office warned that the monsoon is still active and urged citizens to avoid low‑lying areas, stay away from riverbanks, and follow official advisories until the situation stabilises.
