Heavy rains forecast for Himachal Pradesh as 87 roads stay blocked

The Himachal Pradesh weather department warned of further rainfall while officials say 87 mountain roads remain closed because of landslides and flooding.
The state’s meteorological office issued an alert on Monday indicating that the monsoon trough will bring additional showers across Himachal Pradesh over the next 48 hours. Forecasters expect intermittent downpours, especially in the higher reaches of Shimla, Kullu and Lahaul districts, raising the risk of flash floods and landslides.
As of the latest update, 87 roads – many of them critical mountain passes – are still blocked after recent heavy rains triggered landslides and waterlogging. The blocked routes include sections of the NH-5, NH-3 and several state highways that connect remote villages to district centres.
The Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (HPDMA) has deployed rescue teams and heavy‑equipment trucks to clear debris and restore connectivity. Temporary shelters have been set up for commuters stranded in affected areas, and the state police are directing traffic away from unsafe stretches.
Authorities have urged residents and travelers to avoid non‑essential travel in the affected zones, follow official advisories, and stay prepared for possible evacuation if conditions worsen.
