At least 62 people have died as torrential rain and flooding sweep across parts of northern India, officials said.
Heavy monsoon rains intensified across several districts of northern India on Tuesday, triggering flash floods that have already resulted in a death toll of at least 62, according to local authorities. The deluge inundated low‑lying villages, sweeping away homes, vehicles and agricultural fields, while rescue teams struggled to reach stranded residents.
State disaster management officials deployed boats, helicopters and emergency medical units to the worst‑affected areas. Temporary shelters have been set up in schools and community halls to accommodate families who have lost their houses. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been called in to assist local police in evacuation and relief operations.
Roads connecting the region to major cities have been closed or rendered impassable due to water‑logged conditions, hampering the movement of relief supplies.
