The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains across Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for today, urging residents to stay alert.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a weather advisory indicating that intense rainfall is expected to affect the southern states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu later today. Meteorologists attribute the system to a deep‑layered low pressure area moving westward over the Arabian Sea, which is expected to intensify as it approaches the coastline.

Authorities in the three states have been instructed to monitor river levels and urban drainage systems closely. Preliminary forecasts suggest that some districts could receive up to 150 mm of rain within a few hours, raising the risk of flash floods and landslides in hilly regions.

The IMD also warned of strong gusty winds in parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, though the primary concern remains the heavy downpours in the south. Residents are advised to avoid non‑essential travel, secure loose objects, and follow instructions from local disaster management agencies.

Emergency services in the affected states have been placed on standby, and relief teams are ready to respond should any flood‑related incidents arise. The public is urged to stay updated through official channels and to heed any evacuation orders if issued.
