Heavy Rain Triggers Baitarani River Flood, Odisha Issues Weather Alert

The state’s disaster management authority announced a weather alert on Tuesday after continuous heavy rainfall pushed the Baitarani River beyond its banks. Officials said water levels rose sharply in the early morning, submerging villages along the river’s course in Kendujhar and Bhadrak districts.
Local administration has deployed rescue teams and set up temporary shelters for affected families. Relief supplies, including dry rations and clean drinking water, are being dispatched from district headquarters.
Authorities have urged residents in flood‑prone zones to remain vigilant, avoid low‑lying roads, and cooperate with police and volunteers. The alert will remain in force until the river recedes to safe levels.
