Intense rainfall swept across Delhi NCR on Thursday, leading to waterlogging on roads, flight delays and power outages in several areas.

Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region experienced a sudden downpour on Thursday, with meteorological officials recording rainfall totals of up to 70 mm in some parts. The heavy showers caused water to accumulate on major arterial roads such as the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, bringing traffic to a standstill and prompting the Delhi Traffic Police to divert vehicles.

Airlines operating from Indira Gandhi International Airport reported delays and cancellations as low visibility and waterlogged runways hampered operations. The airport authority issued advisories for passengers to check flight status before traveling.

Power distribution companies reported localized outages in several neighborhoods, attributing the disruptions to water ingress in substations. Emergency response teams were deployed to clear drainage channels and assist stranded commuters.

The India Meteorological Department warned that the rain could persist into the evening, urging residents to avoid non-essential travel and to stay alert for further updates.

Authorities have assured that relief measures are underway and that the situation is being closely monitored to prevent any escalation of hazards.
