Continuous rainfall in Shahdol district has caused rivers to overflow, halting movement in several areas, while eight gates at Banasagar have been opened to manage the water.

The Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh has been under persistent rain for several days, leading to a rapid rise in water levels across local streams and rivers. Authorities report that the excess water has breached normal banks, creating localized flooding in low‑lying villages.

Roads and rural pathways in affected blocks have become impassable, disrupting daily commutes and the transport of essential goods. Residents in the worst‑hit areas have been advised to avoid travel until conditions improve.

In response, officials at the Banasagar water management facility have opened eight of its gates to release excess flow downstream, aiming to reduce pressure on the swollen channels. The gate operation is being monitored continuously to balance flood mitigation with downstream safety.

State disaster management teams remain on standby, conducting ground surveys and coordinating relief measures where needed, while urging the public to stay informed through local alerts.
