Meteorological officials say the wet spell will persist in Himachal Pradesh through August 28, keeping 98 mountain roads shut.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory indicating that the current wet spell over Himachal Pradesh will continue until August 28. Continuous rainfall is expected across the state's hilly terrain, with no sign of immediate relief.

As a result, authorities have kept 98 roads closed, primarily those traversing vulnerable valleys and high‑altitude passes. The closures affect connectivity to several remote villages and tourist spots, prompting local administrations to arrange alternative transport where feasible.

Officials have urged commuters and travelers to avoid non‑essential journeys, follow real‑time traffic updates, and cooperate with police and rescue teams stationed along critical routes. Relief measures, including temporary shelters and emergency supplies, are being readied for communities cut off by the road shutdowns.

The department will issue periodic updates based on satellite and ground observations, and will reassess the situation once the rain eases, aiming to reopen the roads safely.
