Meteorological agencies predict a significant shift in monsoon activity, with heavy rainfall expected across northern and eastern parts of India starting Sunday.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather bulletin indicating a pronounced shift in monsoon activity, with the bulk of rainfall moving towards the northern and eastern regions of the country.
According to the bulletin, heavy showers are likely to hit states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, and Odisha from Sunday onwards, with rainfall totals expected to reach 200–300 mm in some districts.
The shift is attributed to the weakening of the low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and the strengthening of the western disturbances that are now steering moisture into the Indo‑Gulf region.
Local authorities in affected areas have urged residents to stay alert, secure properties, and follow advisories issued by the IMD and state disaster management agencies.
