The India Meteorological Department has warned of widespread rain on Sunday that will affect Delhi-NCR, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, prompting authorities to issue precautionary advisories.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert indicating that heavy rainfall will sweep across Delhi-NCR, the hilly regions of Uttarakhand and the plains of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Meteorologists attribute the system to a deepening low-pressure area over the northern Indian subcontinent, which is expected to intensify as it moves eastward.
In Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region, the forecast calls for intermittent downpours that could lead to localized waterlogging, especially in low-lying areas and underpasses. The municipal corporations have been instructed to keep drainage pumps operational and to clear clogged drains ahead of the expected deluge.
Uttarakhand, with its mountainous terrain, is likely to experience sudden showers that may trigger flash floods in valleys and streams. Local disaster management teams have been placed on standby to respond to any emergencies. In Uttar Pradesh, the rain is projected to be widespread, raising concerns for agricultural fields and road travel.
